(Jimmy Britt standing far left . Sam Berger second from the right standing)
The Olympic Club of San Francisco founded in the 1860's was the great amateur boxing proving ground of the West Coast and produced professional champions James Corbett, George Green alias Young Corbett II and later Jimmy Britt, Frankie Neil, Al Kaufman and Sam Berger, two men who played intregal parts in the great Jeffries v. Johnson fight.
At a meeting of the Olympic Club, of San Francisco, Cal., it was decided to send James Britt, amateur champion light-weight boxer of the coast to the A.A. U. championship this spring. Britt is considered the greatest light-weight ever developed in California. He is throughly game and slippery as an eel , and "has the punch" with either hand. Promoters of professional tournaments have made tempting overtures to Britt repeatedly, but he has withstood their blandishments and distinctly states he will never be seen in the professional ranks.
