With the publishing in September of 1974 of Selwyn Raab's front page New York Times expose of the recantations of the two principal witnesses, Rubin Carter and John Artis were back in court before Judge Larner. Represented by lawyers from the Public Defender's Office Carter and Artis were seeking a new trail based upon the recantations. It was not to be Judge Larner ruled the recantations "lacked the ring of truth" and Hurricanes' battle went on.
