Coley Wallace

Former Golden Gloves Champion, Coley Wallace, had a meteoric career. Winning his first eleven bouts, ten by knockout, only to be knocked out in the second round of his twelfth fight by little known Elkins Brothers. But ,apparently back on track Wallace strung together 5 more victories. Then he took a step up in class ,fighting Jimmy Bivins, although he lasted nine rounds the superior Bivins won via a knockout. Again, from defeat came opportunity this time in the form of a motion picture. Because of his resemblance to Joe Louis, Coley Wallace was cast to play "The Brown Bomber" in the 1953 movie, "The Joe Louis Story".

Primarily on the notoriety gained from the movie role Wallace found himself the number ten ranked heavyweight in the world in the fall of 1953. Come December 16, 1953, Coley Wallace's career would reach it's apex and for all practical purposes it's end. That night Coley Wallace stepped in against Ezzard Charles, although game the movie champion was no match for the real thing. After ten grueling rounds Coley Wallace was knocked out. There would be no more comebacks for Coley.
