Jack Dempsey, perhaps the most efficient heavyweight ring assassin of all time, by 1933 was seven years removed from his crown. Although the depression and divorce had forced Dempsey back into the ring to fight a series of exhibitions, he was now settling into the role of American hero. A part he was to play all the rest of the days of his life.
