Gene had drawn a warning midway in the third for his three point attack, gloves and head and when he again pushed his head into Giardello's face...He (Giardello) took after Fullmer and deliberately butted Gene in the face. Fullmer wrestled him into the ropes and Joey repeated, opening a bad gash in the middle of Gene's forehead...Gene slammed back at Joey and Referee Harry Kessler stopped the action...when tempers had cooled, let them resume boxing.
