Charlie Fusari

v.

Paddy Young

Madison Square Garden

New York City

May 12, 1950

A somewhat sour decision in the main event marred boxing's return to Madison Square Garden after a six weeks' vacation. Referee Ruby Goldstein came nearest to the right verdict when he tabbed 6-3-1 in favor of Charley Fusari, 151 1/2, Irvington, New Jersey, over Paddy Young, 154 1/2, Greenwich Village, but he was outvoted by the judges, Joe Agnello, who gave it to Young 6-4, and Bill Healy, who had the rounds even 5-5. but decided for Young by a 7-6 margin in points. It was a rousing battle all the way, with both lads absorbing heavy punishment but Fusari seemed to have earned what edge there was.
