George Gunther
v.
Morris Harris
24 September 1908
HUNG ONE ON GUNTHER
George Gunther, the colored welterweight, met a quick reversal at the hands of another negro, Morris Harris of Philadelphia, in the first round of their scheduled six-round go at the Princess A.C., New York City on Sept. 24.
The men had hardly began sparring for an opening when Harris shot over a straight right-hander flush on Gunther's jaw, and the latter went to the canvas for the count. Gunther tried hard to get up and continue, but the force of the blow was more than he could stand.
