Thomas Hearns

v.

Juan Roldan

It was not a re-enactment of Dempsey v. Firpo, but it had enough of the elements to more than keep the fans on the edge of their seats.

Juan "The Hammer" Roldan, a native of Argentina, as had been Luis Firpo, was a wild swinging ,on -rushing ,force of nature, and the first round saw the more skilled Hearns knock Roldan down twice.

In the second ,Roldan was down once, and suddenly charging ever forward he had Hearns backing up.

The third was all Roldan as he had Thomas Hearns now hurt and on unsteady legs.

The fourth began as the third had ended ,Roldan bulling Hearns into the corner and slamming away, but this time "The Hitman" weathered the storm and stepping out and away he nailed the headlong rushing Roldan with a thruderbolt right hand flush on the chin. As Roldan lurched forward Hearns stepped back and "The Hammer" fell, face first at Thomas Hearns' feet. At the count of eight Roldan rolled slowly to his back.

Thomas Hearns " The Motor City Hit Man" had made history
