Beau Jack, returning to the ring after knee surgery ,was declared fit by the New York State Boxing Commission doctors, even though Jack was seen to walk with a limp during the final weeks of training and in fact missed two days training, due obstensibly due to a "cold".

In the fourth round ,Tony Janiro forced Jack against the ropes and in attempting to move away to his right Beau Jack's ailing knee gave way and he went down. He rose ,clinging to the ropes ,as the referee began his count Jack's seconds stepped in and stopped the fight. He was carried to his corner and later removed from the ring on a stretcher.
