The showing of Frank Klaus, the Pittsburg middle weight, against Jimmie Gardner, at Boston, the other night, was such as to enthuse his friends and make the rest of the middle weights sit up and take notice. Gardner has been getting heavier of late, and went into the ring scaling close to middle weight limit, which is 158 pounds, but despite his cleverness he was unable to do anything with the Pittsburgher at all. Klaus forced the fighting from the start, and almost put Jimmie into dreamland, in the second round. Some of those present made the claim that Gardner was down for the allotted ten seconds, but the referee decided otherwise, and the contest continued. It was only Gardner's cleverness and ablity to cover up that prevented him from going down and out.

A special wire from Boston says of the Klaus-Gardner bout: " Gardner was knocked out in the second by a blow to the stomach. As Referee Flaherty counted ten, Gardner slowly rose, but he motioned Klaus winner. The house was in turmoil, and the officials signaled the referee to allow the bout to continue. Klaus secured the decision at the end of the twelfth. Gardner had a slight shade in two or three rounds only , and at the end was a badly punished man."
