The handsome and dapper Lewis could beat any light heavyweight in the world, with the possible exception of Maxie Rosenbloom. In the era of the non-title fight, Lewis lost his very next fight, but not his title to Rosenbloom. that would be second time he was to have lost to Rosenbloom in the year.
But, come Lewis next bout his ship was righted as he quickly desposed of Georgie Simpson in two rounds.
Lewis was to remain Champion for three years, before relinquishing his title due to blindness. In all, John Henry Lewis fought 105 bouts, losing only 7.
