Harry "Kid" Matthews

v.

Paulie Blanks

Washington State Middleweight Championship

August 15, 1947

Harry Matthews hammered his way to a one-sided victory over the very courageous and ever trying Paulie Blanks of Spokane. I hate to say "See? I told you so" but Paulie Blanks is not ready for fighters of Matthew's caliber. Paulie showed courage a la Henry Armstrong as he swallowed blood during the entire fight. There were no knockdowns althought Blanks was in trouble on numerous occasions. The rest of the card was pleasing, too, as Charlie O'Kelly took a decision from Joe Albina in a semi-final in which each were given trips to the canvas.

Billy Corbett lost a close go to Henry Lee in six. Eddie Halligan beat Frankie Rowe in another six and in the curtain raiser Red Garrison KO'd Ruben Krug in the third round.
