Jack McAuliffe

vs.

Jem Carney

1914

When Jack McAuliffe fought Jem Carney the first time it was in barn in Revere, Massachusetts, before a very small crowd of onlookers. That bout, fought in skin tight gloves, lasted 74 rounds and was declared a draw.

So, burned into the consciousness of the British boxing public was this historic match that on February 4, 1914, the two old warriors met in the ring once more. This time it was a tame exhibition. This too was without decision. The referee was Charlie Mitchell.
