Carlos Monzon
The Ring Interview
With the everything he could hope for in life, fame, fortune, good looks, good health, Carlos Monzon 11 years retired from the ring could not control "the Killer Instinct" that had made him champion.
In the early morning hours of Valentine's Day, 1988, Carlos Monzon and his estranged wife , Alicia, argued and ultimately fell from the second story balcony of a rented home in Mar del Plata, Argentina. When Monzon regained consciousness and was able to summon help his memory of events was hazy, in fact initially he made no mention of his wife's presence. When police arrived Alicia Monzon was discovered on the ground below the balcony, dead. Subsquent tests indicated evidence of severe pressure having been applied to her kneck as if she had been choked.
Monzon was convicted and sentenced to eleven years in prision.
