Mexican Joe Rivers

Circa 1921

The great Mexican Joe Rivers, victim of perhaps the foulest decision in history of all championship boxing. Ruled the loser in a bizare double knockdown in his Lightweight Championship bout with Ad Wolgast. A knockdown that saw Wolgast being declared the winner as the referee carried him to his corner.

The brief biography on the reverse " He gave up the ring about a year ago and says he will retire now for good."

Nearly a century later Sanchez, Chavez and DeLaHoya traveled a road paved with the sweat and tears of Joe Rivers.
