The incredibly durable Young Stribling had just completed a series of four fights in Europe and three fights in the U.S. prior to his bout with Griffiths. In Stribling's last two fights prior to fighting Griffiths he had sustained a cracked bone in his left hand and a broken rib.

Stribling showed up just the same!

Avoiding using his injured left hand and with his left side taped, Stribling won a unanimous decision over the rough and tumble Griffiths.
