THOMAS WINS
January 11, 1906
Manager C.F. Grennan's enterprise in preparing a big fistic program was rewarded last evening by a large and enthusiastic audience at the Pavilion.
A band discoursed sweet music and the arrangements were carried out in that high class manner that always characterize the affairs under the auspices of the Palm Athletic Club.
The main event...between Al Neill and Joe Thomas, a twenty round contest, betting favored Thomas at odds of 10 to 7.
The bout was one of the best contested and cleverly fought of any ring contest ever seen in Vallejo.
Thomas had the advantage of youth and was in perfect condition which reflected great credit on his trainer Harry Foley.
...The contest was fiercely fought, and it was give and take up to the fourteenth round. In this round Thomas appeared to the stronger...Thomas got in some hard ones to Neill's jaw...Eddie Smith seeing that Neill was badly punished declared Thomas the victor. Neill no doubt could have gone on for another round, but would have been at the mercy of Thomas...
