A left hook to the body followed by a stunning hook to the head sent Hosea sinking to the canvas. He pulled himself up into a kneeling position and seemed to be in control of himself. But he mistimed his rise and was still in a crouching position as referee Harry Papacharalambous spread his arms to signal a knockout.

Hosea then became more fighting mad than he had been during the actual contest. He protested to the referee that he had beaten the count and the crowd booed as it confirmed he was knocked out. It was Tyson's 14th first round knockout victory- and his least satisfactory. (1)

"He seemed game enough to continue even though I'd caught him with a jolting punch, but referee thought otherwise."

-Mike Tyson
