Coming some ten weeks after having taken a brutal beating at the hands of Max Schmeling Mickey Walker was back in the ring in front of the his Hollywood crowd. An overweight Mickey managed to knock out heavyweight Arthur DeKuh in the first round. This was to be the beginning of the end for Walker as a top flight competitor. After two more bouts he and Doc Kearns parted company, Doc was not one to hang around with a loser. Even though Mickey would get a shot at the light heavyweight title the following year, losing to Maxie Rosenbloom, it was second-rate and down hill from here.
The lady at ringside striking the dramatic pose is actress Lupe Velez, seated to her right is John Boles on her left Johnny Weissmuller.

Interestingly this is one of the images Walker chose for inclusion in his autobiograph, Mickey Walker. The Toy Bull Dog & His Times. His comment on this photo included, "Lupe Valez...She was one of the most dynamic persons I have ever known. " High praise indeed from someone who knew more than a little about being dynamic.
