...tricked him and trapped him...

Wladek Zbyszko

v.

Earl Caddock

"Caddock was Zbyszko's superior thru-out. He outgained and outwrestled the giant Pole at every statge of the match.

Caddock took the first fall after one and twenty-two minutes of wrestling with a head scizzors and bar arm hold, the grips which won him the championship nearly a year ago from Joe Stecher at Omaha.

The Iowa lad came back strong but lost the second fall thru a fluke. He had twined himself around the big Pole's frame with a body scizzors when Zbyszko hurled him to the mat. Caddock's head struck the floor and he was so dazed that he could not move. Zbyszko then clambered on top, fastened a side hiplock on his opponent, and took the fall in thirty-one minutes. The hard jolt coming suddenly as it did, knocked the wind out of the champion and stunned him for about three minutes. ...he had recovered and started for his dressing room. Instantly the Iowa rooters were hooting the big man and shouting "Lucky". The hold however, was legitimate.

Both men were clearly exhausted when they returned to the mat for the third fall. Caddock clearly showed the effects of his injury and lacked the aggressiveness which had featured his work early in the bout...

Zbyszko proved unable to fathom the catlike work of Caddock. Altho outweighed by 60 pounds the Anita youth was seldom in danger and had little trouble in slipping away from his bulky opponent. Zbyszko proved one of the hardest propositions Caddock ever tackled in a roped arena. The big Pole sprawled out on the mat on the defensive, and Caddock's efforts failed to move him... The Iowan clamped hold after hold on the foreigner, tricked him and trapped him but Zybszko's great strength proved too much for the lighter man....

...I awarded Caddock the match on points. He deserved the decision by his sterling work. It was a great wrestle and a great crowd, stated Referee Smith.
